But why Sheffield, why now?
Well, according to SCR Growth Hub, Sheffield City Region’s economy has an output of more than £34bn pounds per year and is home to approximately 68,000 businesses which have created and sustained approximately 700,000 jobs. Given this information, it’s safe to say that Sheffield is a thriving hub for business and the perfect choice for business owners looking to expand.
Here we explore just three of the many reasons why this may be.
It hosts a blossoming creative and tech industry
In 2018, The Yorkshire Post revealed global technology firm Sellics’ results that highlighted Sheffield as one of the best cities in the world to start a creative or tech firm. However, that also presents an advantage for any type of business, as we all, on occasion, need to enlist the help of a variety of businesses in this sector. Having such a great choice right on your doorstep means you’ll be able to meet face-to-face, see how their business works, and get recommendations from other businesses in the area who have used their services.
What’s more, if you are a creative or tech firm just starting out and looking for support, you’ll have a host of neighbours whom you can seek advice and tips from to help you get off the ground.
There’s growing support available for start-ups and entrepreneurs
According to start-up donut magazine, Sheffield is amongst only a handful of cities outside of London that boasts and impressive five-year start-up survival rate of 45%, and we believe that’s partly because of the wide array of support made available by local business support initiatives.
The Sheffield City Region growth hub is one example of these initiatives. The Growth Hub acts as a ‘gateway’ so that businesses can access specialists in any field of business development that they need, including innovation, exporting, accessing finance or training. Great transport links
Whether you plan on living in Sheffield, or you’ll commute there each day, you’ll have no issues travelling to and around this vibrant city. Located just 6 miles from the M1 motorway, it’s an ideal spot to travel to by car. Plus, with over 20 carparks in the centre, you’ll be able to find somewhere to leave your car at an affordable rate.
If you’re one to consider the environment, there’s a variety of more sustainable ways to travel too. Trains run regularly between Sheffield and other cities including London and Manchester, and there’s a whole load of bus services operating from the city centre itself. But the big wow factor is the city’s cycle routes. If you’re not afraid to hop on a bike in the morning and after work, you’ll love how easy it is to cycle around the centre. What’s more, you’ll find plenty of safe spots for you to leave your bike whilst you work – one of which will be right outside 32 Eyre Street.
