Why We Love Sheffield
What makes people fall in love with Sheffield? We have the answer to that question! It’s a combination of factors that work together to make this one of the best places to live in the UK!
We’ve created a list of some of the things we love best about this beautiful city. Let’s get started!
1). People are Friendly
It’s a fact that in the north, people are friendly. For instance, if you need directions, some one will be there to help, along with offering recommendations on the best place to have dinner or enjoy a pint.
And we’d like to warn you—don’t be shocked if a complete stranger comes up and starts talking with you. They really do want to have a conversation with you, just because they’re friendly! Small talk is a common thing in the Steel City.
Sheffield people may even start conversations with you at the bus stop, or while out and about on a night out. You’ll find this is one of the friendliest place you’ve ever been.
2). Sheffield’s Green Spaces
The Steel City isn’t just about steel manufacturing these days. You’ll find the city offers a wide variety of green spaces and parks. You can drive or walk to each, as all are within easy reach. In fact about 1/3 of the city is within the Peak District National Park.
Sheffield boasts some 250 parks, woodlands, gardens, and wildlife habitats. Here’s a short list of some of the parks you can check out:
- Graves Park & Animal Farm
- Hillsborough Park & Walled Garden
- Millhouses Park
- Sheffield Botanical Gardens
- And more
If you enjoy nature and green spaces, you’ll find it here, in Sheffield.
3). The Coffee Shops
A good cupa is the only way to get through the day, and thankfully Sheffield’s blessed with some wonderful coffee shops. No matter your taste in coffee, you’ll find a shop that caters to your whims whether you prefer an Americano or a mocha.
You can take a cup over at the Bragazzi, which has been around for over a decade. Or get your coffee fix at the Amici & Bici, where you can enjoy a cup and some great treats to give you energy to cycle up that next hill. Check out the Forge Bakehouse and their amazing loaves of bread, along with your favourite coffee.
There’s something for everyone here, if you love coffee. We’ve got you covered.
4). The Pubs
This one probably should have gone before the coffee, but that’s OK. Sheffield has plenty of pubs that offer all types of brews, so no matter what your preference, you’ll find a brilliant pub to enjoy a great pint.
Checkout the Sheffield Tap over near the railway station on platform 1B. Here, you’ll find some wonderful craft beers, and enjoy the architecture at the same time. They have a list of over 200 bottles, and 23 casks and taps, so you’re sure to find something to enjoy!
Don’t miss the Fat Cat! You’ll find this pub over on Kelham’s Island. It’s another place where you can take in some craft brews. Next on the list is the Rutland Arms. This pub is located over in Sheffield’s Cultural Industries Quarter, in a vintage architectural building filled with history. You’ll enjoy the quirky décor and delightful drafts.
And there’s more, but we need to move on to the next reason for loving Sheffield. The main point is that no matter what type of brew you prefer, there are plenty of pubs to try out in this lovely city.
5). The Restaurants
We have a theme going here, so we’ll next take a look at restaurants. Here, again, Sheffield doesn’t disappoint. You’ll find a great restaurant in almost every part of the city, based on a wide variety of cultures and cuisines.
Consider a trip over to Nonna’s. Here, you’ll find some authentic Italian food from a place that’s been open since 1996. And you’ll be surprised at the reasonable prices for such delicious food!
Visit the Milestone, which is a great place to enjoy a Sunday roast. They also have exquisite brunches, dinners, and also offer early-bird specials. And it has it’s own cookery school, where you can learn how to make their wonderful roasts!
Don’t forget Otto’s. This is a place where you’ll find amazing Middle Eastern cuisine, along with live entertainment that includes belly dancers, magicians, and more. They also cater for large groups and allow everyone to bring their own drinks.
We’re not kidding that you’ll find the food in Sheffield is the best around!
6). Nature is Extremely Close
If you enjoy hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking, and more, then you’ll fall in love with Sheffield. You can do all of this, and more, in the area.
You’ll find the Peak District has over 555 miles of national parkland, where it’s possible to enjoy an easy, pleasant walk with the family, activities for kids, or take on more challenging outdoor sports. Visit such places as Hope Valley, Go Ape, Conkers, and more. We kid you not when we say there’s something for the whole family to enjoy here.
Best of all, it’s easy to reach right from Sheffield. You can bike, take the bus, walk, or drive.
7). The Sports
Sheffield is a place that loves sports. In fact, two of the most famous football clubs in England are based here. The clubs are the Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday. And the city is home to the Sheffield FC, which is the world’s oldest football club.
Sheffield is known as Steel City, but it has so much more to offer these days. It’s a city filled with culture, dedicated sports, great pubs & restaurants, and so much more. But we have to say that best reason we love Sheffield are the city’s people. They are truly the friendliest, dare we say the friendliest people you’ll meet anywhere in the UK, or maybe even in the world!
