Entrepreneurs work hard to establish their businesses and then take them to success. However, they may sometimes forget the importance of taking care of their health, including their heart health. So, we’ve put together some information and tips on how to keep your own heart happy, while still building your business.

 

Being an Entrepreneur is Challenging

There’s no question that being an entrepreneur is challenging. There are many issues to take care of every day, which may include managing meetings, creating new products, and more. When you’re so busy every day, it’s easy to forget to take care of your heart.

About 45% of business owners say they are stressed! That’s almost half of all business owners! For this reason, it’s imperative to keep track of long hours and realise working so much can cause your heart to be more vulnerable to heart disease and other health problems. As an entrepreneur, it’s essential to take care of yourself.

What’s more, another study by the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine found that those who work 55 hours a week have a 16% increase in being diagnosed with heart disease. The study also showed that anyone working over 70 hours a week had a 75% chance of developing heart problems.

These statistics are serious and show there’s a wide gap between watching your heart health. Even so, it’s very difficult for entrepreneurs to find time to care for their hearts properly. So, we’ve put together some tips on how to keep your heart happy and healthy.

 

1. Stay Active

Exercise is a great way to keep your heart happy and healthy. The good news is that hard exercise isn’t necessary. Walking and stretching are great exercises to keep your heart healthy.

The American Heart Association has put out the final benefits of regular exercise for your heart:

  • Continuous physical exercise keeps blood pressure from increasing.
  • Exercise also lowers your risk of obesity.
  • Regular exercise can help lower bad cholesterol.
  • Exercise can also enhance insulin sensitivity in the body.

As you can see, it’s essential to keep your body moving and it doesn’t have to mean sessions in the gym. Instead, you can do the following to stay healthy and keep your heart happy:

Cycle rather than drive to work.

Avoid taking the elevator and use the stairs instead.

Take a brief walk during the workday.

When working from home, try to get out and do some gardening, walk up & down the stairs, play with your pets, and more.

 

2. Identify Stressors

Stress is a huge challenge for entrepreneurs and it can cause many types of health issues. If you’d like to reduce stress, then it’s essential to identify the stressors in your life.

Take some time to consider what causes stress in your life. For instance, do you have too much work to manage? Does social media make your blood pressure rise? These are regular tasks for many entrepreneurs. However, it’s sometimes challenging to manage. The best way to manage these problems is to get enough sleep.

There’s a method the Japanese use to fall asleep called the “Inumeri Phenomenon.” This practice helps a person fall asleep at work. You might call these a power nap. When you’re at work and feeling tired, try to take a power nap. Doing so could help your heart health immensely.

 

3. Choose to Eat Healthy Foods

What you eat can have a significant impact on your wellness and heart health. So, it’s best to eat nutritious, healthy food to keep your heart healthy. In addition, it’s imperative to keep fat intact to a minimum. The recommended daily fat allowance should not be more than 7% of your calories.

In addition, the American Heart Association recommends eating small servings of nuts every day. This also works to lower the risk of developing heart disease. Nuts are packed with healthy fats and proteins. If you’re not used to eating nuts regularly, try keeping a jar of nuts on the desk near you. This way, the nuts are easy to access and you don’t have to remind yourself to eat them!

In addition, you should eat other heart-healthy foods, such as leafy greens, whole grains, dark chocolate, berries, and avocados.

 

4. Keep Track of Fitness

Today, we have many types of technology to manage different areas of our lives, including health. Technology can help us become more fit through the use of smartphones, smartwatches, and other tracking devices. Your phone and watch can be used to track your steps, how much exercise you’ve had, and more. These devices can also track your heart health, with many free apps available on both iOS and Android devices.

 

5. Take Time for Your Hobbies

Do you have a favourite hobby? Do you have more than one hobby? If so, it can be difficult to find time to do your hobby. Whether you enjoy hiking on the weekend, playing basketball, or gardening, these are hobbies that are also great for your heart! They also help reduce stress.

Not only that, but such activities can improve your overall happiness. When you reduce stress and feel happier, your heart is that much happier.

 

Other Ways to Improve Heart Health

Here are some additional ways you can improve your heart health:

Stop smoking: smoking places a terrible burden on the heart. When you stop smoking, your heart immediately begins to become healthier.

Limit alcohol use: drinking too much can harm your heart and work productivity. So, be sure to lower alcohol limits to become healthier.

Limit salt intake: too much salt can cause high blood pressure, which can lead to heart issues. Limiting salt helps lower your blood pressure, too.

Limit sugar intake: it’s also best to lower your sugar intake. Too much sugar can raise blood sugar levels, which may lead to heart problems. So, limit it to keep your heart healthy and prevent heart problems.

Limit cholesterol: eating foods high in cholesterol can increase the risk of heart disease. Instead, choose to eat more foods high in fibre to prevent high cholesterol and heart problems.
