Celebrating 6 Years – Nicci Cantrill on her Wizu-versary

Today, we’re celebrating one of the longest-standing members of our team – Nicoletta Cantrill (formerly Baranelli!). Nicci is our Commercial Development Manager, who started out as a Member Host in our Leeming Building space – so she’s worked her way up to be a key member of our team!
We wanted to chat to her about how she’s found the last 6 years, her biggest achievements and how sentimental she’s feeling about her Wizu-versary.
What are your biggest achievements at Wizu, and what are you most proud of?
To sum it up, I think my professional and personal growth is my biggest achievement. I have been fortunate to work alongside key stakeholders and directors of the business since day 1 of starting my journey at Wizu, and I am so grateful for that opportunity. I didn’t necessarily have relevant qualifications which led me to the role I have in the business today, however, the Wizu team saw potential in me and helped me to get to where I am today. I am genuinely proud of the work we all put in as a small team in 2018 with 2 buildings in Leeds City Centre, when I look at how the business has grown today with 50+ team members and 10+ buildings to date, it’s almost hard to believe! But at the same time, I knew Wizu was destined for great things, so I’m really not surprised by how successful the business is and I’m so proud to be a part of it
How has the industry changed since you first started?
All businesses that come to us are looking first are foremost for flexibility, the hybrid working model is something all of our clients have implemented in some way, shape or form. There is clearly more demand for flex space in general but also the amenities that come with it. Access to phone booths, meeting rooms and break-out space is almost as important if not more important than the office space itself to some companies. It’s really encouraging to see business owners take a genuine interest in their team’s well-being and care about the kind of environment they work in.
How is Wizu’s approach to sales different?
We’re not salesy sales people! Everyone in our “sales” department is in this department because ultimately, they have a natural and genuine skill for talking to people, that’s what it comes down to. I love doing office tours as it gives me the opportunity to meet people from all sorts of interesting companies and walks of life, we really listen to what our client’s needs are and present options that suit them and their business, not the other way around.
When you think about the most successful people you work alongside, what is it about them that you think helps them to achieve their goals?
I’m very lucky to have some amazing people in the business that I would consider role models and team members that I look up to. We’re all very different but have the same goal for Wizu so it really helps to observe and pick up on other ways of working to help me upskill and improve on performance. Attributes like having a positive demeanour and being approachable are things I have observed and want to take forward in managing my team and growing the business. I think it’s important to lead with kindness, which is something I have also observed in being managed and something I have tried to carry forward in my own management style. I think overall, your mindset impacts how successful you can be within the business, and every day I have the opportunity to learn which is something I am grateful for!
How has Wizu changed in the last 6 years?
When I first started, being a small team meant you are doing a little bit of everything alongside your peers. We were all heavily reliant on each other and formed a strong culture and bond because of this, which we have carried through to the 50+ team members we have today! We’ve had to implement a lot more structure as the business has grown but the great thing is, everyone is still of the attitude we had on day 1, which is someone will always be prepared to help you no matter what role or department of the business they’re in.
Where do you see yourself in the future?
Working my way through the ranks and with the opportunities there are in the future at Wizu, I’d love to grow my team and help them develop the same way the directors and my peers did for me when I first started. Starting my career in a more operations-based role, I’d love to bring the two worlds together and I can see myself in a hybrid sales/operations role in the future whilst being a leader and cultural ambassador for Wizu.
Note from me – I really would like to thank everyone in the business who saw my potential and helped me to achieve a career I genuinely love!
