1). Sheffield City Region Growth Hub

Here, you’ll find a wide range of financial support for businesses in Sheffield. This organisation will put you in touch with the right resources, including grants, schemes, and packages for financial support for your company.

The Sheffield City Region Growth Hub includes the following schemes for businesses:

  • Job Retention Scheme
  • Restart Grants for non-essential businesses
  • Self-Employment Income Scheme
  • And more


2). Business Sheffield

Business Sheffield is sponsored by Sheffield City Council, which has created the Launchpad Start-Up Programme. This programme has received up to £2,073,681 for funding from the England European Regional Development Fund. The goal is to stimulate local economic development through investing in projects that support innovation, businesses, the creation of jobs, and local community regeneration.


3). Help to Grow Programme

The Help to Grow Programme is set to help SMEs to learn new skills, reach new customers, and increase their profits. Businesses can apply for an Executive Development programme, which could improve business performance and improve growth potential. The Government subsidises the costs of training and support through the programme by 90%.

In addition, there’s free online advice and up to £5,000 off software that’s essential to running a business.

The Executive Development programme started in June, and the free online advice starts in Autumn.


4). Launchpad

Launchpad is a support program for new businesses in Sheffield. The £3.5m initiative is in part funded by the European Regional Development Fund and is led by Enterprising Barnsley, the Princess Trust, Doncaster MBC, Sheffield CC, and Rotherham MBC.

Launchpad provides free support for pre-start and new businesses in the Sheffield City Region. This inclusive programme has been created to help ambitious entrepreneurs begin successful businesses and helping to support SMEs that are three years old to go on the next step, which is growing their businesses.


5). Y Accelerator

Entrepreneurs and startups can also apply to the Y Accelerator programme. In this programme, up to 10 individuals, teams, or companies in Sheffield City Region who have new business ideas, have the chance to benefit from a three-month intensive business support programme.

This programme provides businesses with the chance to win investment in their business ideas, with the goal of kickstarting those ideas that have the highest chance to grow and succeed.


6). Scale Up 360

This programme is focused on offering support for new businesses that have high growth potential. This programme is managed at Sheffield Hallam University and provides support to the entire region.


7). SCR: Skills Banks

This programme is to invest in the provision of skills for businesses operating in the Sheffield City Region. Employers can choose from a list of training providers or source their own.

The Skill Bank funding contributes to the overall cost of training, and the amount each employer receives will depend on the business case for growth, which is outlined in their application, as well as their contribution to the Sheffield City Region economy.


8). Restart Grants: Doncaster

The Restart Grant scheme has been put together to help support non-essential retail, hospitality, accommodation, leisure, personal care, and gym businesses in England. This is a one-off grant that is made to eligible businesses to help them reopen safely as lockdown eases.

The grant provides funds up to £6,000 to non-essential retail business premises. Grants up to £18,000 will be allocated to hospitality, accommodation, leisure, personal care, and gym business premises.


9). Freshgate Trust Foundation

The Freshgate Trust Foundation is a grant-making charity that was established in 1941. The charity was created back in 1941 by Harry Brearley, the person responsible for inventing stainless steel in Sheffield.

The trust awards about £100,000 each year in grants for charitable activities in Sheffield and South Yorkshire and supports the following areas with grant aid: Education (including travel & training), Heritage, Restoration & Environment, Music and the Arts, Recreation (including holidays and sport), Welfare, Health, and Social Care.


10). SCR Growth Hub: Productivity Grant

This grant programme has been put together to support businesses in South Yorkshire to improve their productivity through the provision of capital or revenue grants and to improve how they measure and report productivity gains.

The programme has a grant budget of £2,715,000 and will provide up to 50% funding for projects up to £24,999. The maximum amount of ERDF grant that can be awarded per business is £12,499. The other 50% must be provided by the applicant.


11). Digital Innovation for Growth

Digital Innovation for Growth is a free service to help SMEs make the most of digital technology. The aim is to help businesses grow, improve their products, maximise efficiency, and adopt new ways of working through digital tech.

The programme links companies with business experts from Sheffield Hallam University, state-of-the-art design, prototyping, and testing facilities at DMC 02 Barnsley’s Digital Campus, the Seam.

The programme is available for SMEs throughout the Sheffield City Region, as well as Chesterfield, North-East Derbyshire, Derbyshire Dales, Bolsolver, and Bassetlaw.

The experts involved with the project provide free consultancy and facilities.


12). SCC Traineeships and Apprenticeships

There are two sources of funding including:

  • Traineeships: Government funding of £1,000 per trainee who is provided with work experience.
  • Existing Apprenticeship Funding: £1,000 for each apprentice taken on between the ages of 16-18, or under 25 in Education, Health, and Care plan.
